Grid View

Grid View is a two-dimensional resizable grid without tab strips or panel drag and drop. Use it when product structure is fixed and users only resize regions, such as an analysis surface, monitor, or canvas. Use Dock Workspace when users need to add, close, or re-dock panels dynamically.

Framework usage

React useGridview returns api, ready, and a stable onReady; the Vue composable returns an api shallow ref and onReady. They manage instance readiness only, leaving every layout operation on the native GridviewApi.

API and state

  • addPanel(), removePanel(), movePanel(), and directional placement change structure.
  • Panel APIs own size constraints, active state, and visibility; the host owns data inside each panel.
  • proportionalLayout suits regions that scale with the container. Fixed tools need explicit sizes and minimum constraints.
  • The vanilla entrypoint must call layout(width, height) before its first panel and again after container resize.

Accessibility

Splitters need visible affordance, while panel content retains ordinary document or application semantics. Keep labels that are necessary for understanding inside each panel, and assign only one scroll owner to a region.
